SEO Tips to Boost Your Blog
May 01, 2015
Small businesses utilize blogs to connect to their customers. Blog content can cover business or industry related topics. A restaurant may share a unique recipe, while a car dealership may give winter vehicle tips.
It is difficult to keep up with current SEO trends when dealing with everyday business duties. There are some simple tips to use when writing blogs that can help a business implement keywords to generate website traffic.
Keywords
The first step is to determine what keywords are going to drive traffic to a website. Once the keywords are identified, the next step is to create and write blog posts incorporating these keywords.
Six places to include particular keywords being targeted, include:
• Title
• Description
• Heading
• Post Content
• Images
• URL
Optimize
The key to optimizing a blog is focusing on the outlets that the content will be distributed through. When including information on social media, fill out the about or information sections and describe. As example, to optimize a Facebook page for local searches, it’s important to include the address, city, state and zip code.
Format
While writing a blog, remember the option to edit titles and URL links. The URL usually defaults to the post title, which makes a catchy title important. There is an option to edit the permalink and remove the stop words. Featuring keywords in a permalink can earn a higher search engine ranking for a blog post.
Original Content
In the past, SEO copywriting involved a great deal of specific rules about where and how to display keywords in a blog post. Now blog posts can be interpreted based on theme and relevance with Google. This means that original content will outrank duplicate content a great deal.
Avoid overusing keywords in a blog post; however, if italicized or in bold, keywords can hold more power than in plain text. Discover new blog post topics and SEO opportunities by reviewing analytics, identifying popular new keywords and strategizing long tail keywords. Long tail keywords are not as popular keywords, because they have less search volume and competition to rank against.
